Remember awhile back when we covered the story of a particularly gross marketing strategy to get more numbers through the door? The Hilton Osaka tried to offer discounts based on heel height and it quite obviously stemmed from the idea that bigger heels meant more attractive and promiscuous women, which in turn meant more high flying male customers.
Well, it looks like we have a new front runner when it comes to disgustingly sexist marketing tactics. Trendy Shrimp, a restaurant at a mall in Hangzhou, China, has recently come under fire for offering discounts to women depending on the size of their bra.
Locals complained about the poster, which featured a line up of cartoon women in underwear and read “The whole city is looking for BREASTS”. The discounts were definitely in favour of busty women, someone with a G-cup would cop a 65% discount while an A-cup would get just 5% off her meal.
The posters first popped up on the 1st of August and have since been removed, but Trendy Shrimp general manager Lan Shenggang still believed in the promotion. “Once the promotion started, customer numbers rose by about 20%,” he said, adding that “some of the girls we met were very proud – they had nothing to hide.”
He went on to add that women could claim the discounts from a waitress instead of a male staff member, in order to “avoid embarrassment” for the women. Sorry bud, I don’t think that’s gonna make up for discriminating against an entire gender based on the size of their body parts.
