For anyone that’s fans of the Lord of the Rings universe, whether you’ve thoroughly loved every behind the scenes and director’s cut or whether you were forced to agonizingly sit through them all on one long weekend – we’ve got some great news for you.
Amazon has just signed off on a $328 million deal to acquire the rights to The Lord Of The Rings for a brand new television series, meaning we’re about to get a helluva lot of new content from Middle Earth.
The deal means that Amazon will be able to move forward with their plans for a prequel concerning the events of the war of the ring, giving viewers a much needed debrief into what happened before shit hit the fan.
“The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen,” said Sharon Tal Yguado, Head of Scripted Series at Amazon Studios.
“We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth.”
With Game of Thrones finishing up fairly soon, we’re going to need something with sword fighting to binge watch, here’s hoping this LOTR show comes good pretty soon.
