Every time someone gets arrested with an absolute fuck-ton of drugs, you can’t help but wonder if earning a bit of coin is actually worth the anxiety and torment that comes with sitting in a foreign prison for the rest of your life.
Well, now we know that it actually is, as long as you get to take some snaps in exotic locations so you can flex on the plebs sitting at home without any coke hiding up their arsehole.
According to 24-year-old Melina Roberge, she wasn’t too keen on a plan for her to smuggle around $30 million worth of cocaine in Australia, but when she realised that she’d get to travel the world and take some insta-worthy snaps she jumped on board.
So she chucked 95 kg of coke in her case and lived a life of luxury, posing for photos in bikinis, riding quad bikes and sippin’ out of coconuts.
She expected to bank at least $100K but authorities caught up to her. She pleaded guilty to a smuggling charge in February and told the court that she did it so she could “take photos of [herself] in exotic locations for likes and attention,”
“Since I have been in jail I have come across people struggling with addiction,” she told the court, according to News.com.au. “I don’t want to be part of that. I am really sorry, I should have thought about the consequences and not what I would have gotten for it.”
She’s just been sentenced to eight years in jail, serving a minimum of 4 years and 9 months. I bloody bet she’s wishing she just posted a thirst trip now.
