NSW Grandfather Finds $1m Winning Ticket In Back of Car More Than a Year After He Bought It

A bloke from New South Wales struck absolute bloody gold when he discovered a $1,020,496 winning lottery ticket in the bottom of his shopping bags, 13 months after originally buying it. The grandfather, who hasn’t been identified, only found out the ticket was a winner this month after having a rummage through his old shopping bags.

“I line the bottom of my reusable Aldi shopping bags with old beer cartons to give them some strength,” he said. “The ticket was hidden in underneath it and I didn’t know it was there.

“I was cleaning rubbish out of my car on the weekend and thought it was time to put new cartons in the bottom of all my bags as they were starting to get torn and I got quite a surprise!”

Luckily old mate didn’t decide to have a clean earlier, otherwise, the winning ticket would have been lost forever. “I’m glad I didn’t just get the old bags and take them to the dump!” he said. “I’ve done some pretty stupid things in my time!”

Nextra Marketown Newsagency owner Cheryl Tuckerman said the shop was “over the moon” with their customer’s big win. “You wouldn’t believe how many customers we’ve had coming in the past year asking whether the winner had been found,” she said. Cheryl went on to say that it’s like they had won the lotto themselves, even though it totally and definitely is not the same thing.

The winner plans on using the money to help his children with house repayments and pay for his grandchildren’s education. “It will smooth the troubled water in front of them,” he said. Which is perhaps the sweetest thing any grandparent has ever said, ever.go Grandad.

Go Grandad.
