If recent world events have proved anything, it’s that by nature, humans are tenacious, persistent and unwilling to let others deter them from doing things that they want to do. If we plan on doing something, we don’t let little things like terrorist attacks or natural disasters stand in our way.
Which is probably why a picture of a bloke mowing the lawn while a huge fuck-off tornado lingers in the background resonated with a heap of people on social media. Theunis Wessels of Alberta was innocently mowing the lawn when his wife Cecilia snapped a picture of him.

She said that cutting the grass was on her husband’s to-do list, and as he began the task she went for a nap. Cecilia said she was woken later by their nine-year-old daughter, who was pretty upset that her father wouldn’t come inside despite the looming threat of being swept away by a twister.
“I literally took the picture to show my mum and dad in South Africa, ‘Look there’s a tornado,’ and now everyone is like, ‘Why is your husband mowing the lawn?’” said Cecilia Wessels. “Our whole street, everyone was on their back patios taking pictures,” she said.
The man himself said that he was well aware of his surroundings and saw the twister form as the swirling connected from the sky and the ground to form the funnel. Theunis also reckoned that while tornados were uncommon in his home country of South Africa, he had previously seen a TV show about storm chasers, so he was good to go.
“It looks much closer if you look in the photo, but it was really far away. Well, not really far, far away, but it was far away from us,” he said. “I was keeping an eye on it.”
Beautifully put Theunis, a true champion of grass cutters and people who simply couldn’t give a fuck everywhere.
