Kangaroos run Australia’s streets. Just ask any American you cross paths with, or watch the below video, which is five minutes worth of straight brawlin’ in a suburban street on the Central Coast in NSW. LiveLeak user Achilles uploaded the video just yesterday and the footage is a very good reminder of how powerful kangaroos can be. It’s also a nudge in the side telling us just how beautiful Australia is, because one minute you can be washing your SS Commodore on the lawn, and the next you’re filming two six foot tall marsupials trying to gouge each other to death.
The last recorded human death by kangaroo (what a way to go) was in 1936, though it’s far from uncommon that a tourist or local finds themselves on the wrong side of a roo’s claws. According to Slate, who seem to know an awful lot about defending yourself against our national animal, your best bet at kanga-defence is to walk away sideways. “Retreat, but do not turn your back and run,” Brian Palmer writes, explaining, “A kangaroo can easily chase you down, kicking as it hops.”
Neither of these kangaroos retreated. WORLDSTAR! WORLDSTAR!
