As a nation, we Australians love to celebrate our heroes. Whether it’s Ned Kelly and his daring exploits, Johnathan Thurston and his almost god-like athletic abilities, or that bloke in smokers who gave you a durrie when you were absolutely fanging for one.
It looks like we’ve found a new national hero in Dean, a passenger on Qantas flight QF777, who was so determined to bring his prized Emu Export all the way from Melbourne to Perth that he checked it in as his only luggage.
The Melbourne ground staff who handled the check-in were happy to help a man on his quest for achieving beer nirvana, as long as they got to snap a few photos first.
As you’d expect, Dean was bloody thrilled to see his prized possession emerge unscathed at the other end. “My mate works at the airport and we hatched the plan as a laugh — I half didn’t expect it to come out the other end.
“But when it did it was sent out well in front of all the other luggage, so the baggage handlers obviously appreciated it.
“Sure enough there she was, alone on the carousel proudly making her way around. And there I was in my flanno and RMs to greet her. It was perfection.”
The bond between a man and his beer is evidently quite a beautiful thing, here’s to many more instances of beers travelling great lengths to be with their loved ones, it’s what they deserve.
