Last night, A Current Affair slammed My Kitchen Rules judge Pete Evans for his involvement in the increasingly troublesome paleo diet. And by troublesome, I mean his particular cookbook might have killed someone if someone more intelligent didn’t point out how stupid it was.
The report has since been described as a “witch hunt”, with Evans being called out for “making a fortune” by selling the “fad diet”. Ben McCormack said a bunch of nasty things about old mate Pete, including an assertion that the celebrity chef was “unqualified and dangerous,” – which is rich coming from people who make a living running scandal stories about neighbors who don’t get along with one another.
“No matter how ludicrous his claims become — or who he offends — it seems Channel Seven doesn’t want to sack him,” McCormack said in a voiceover. This particular sentence sums up the extent to which ACA were going to in order to create a stir.
A Current Affair also did what A Current Affair always do, bringing on two people who directly support their agenda. Professor Kerryn Phelps and nutritionist Susie Burrell said things like “I think the claims are at best optimistic and at worst fraudulent,” and “He’s probably much better preparing food than giving individuals information on how to eat it.” Both true, no doubt.
Then Pete Evans spoke to KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O (as if there wasn’t enough questionable credibility in this story already) this morning about the damning report.
“I do find it fascinating that they’d use those type of words. I’d like them to be able to prove anything that they’re saying. If they can prove that I’m dangerous, then show me. If they can prove that I’m making outrageous claims, then show me the evidence,” he said.
The glaring question that must be answered remains: who is worse? Pete Evans or A Current Affair? We’d say the latter.
