Self described as jacked up bottom end bass music evolutionised by two malnutritioned missing links, Mankinde are making punters jump with their unique blend of bass-riddled house. A duo spawned within the humble confines of Brisbane, their days are spent bashing our rhythms in a tropical inspired studio. Intent on spreading their aural talents to the worlds late night cohort, Danny and Justin draw inspiration from UK garage, deep house and techno, a blend of traditional and unconventional sounds that compliment one and other perfectly. Perusing their released material it’s evident that percussion forms the centerpiece of the Mankinde moniker, with their worryingly addictive drum work sitting perfectly atop basslines that leave most producers green with envy.
“Usually we kick off with a sushi and sake session and hit the studio half pissed” the told us in a recent interview, explaining that while Justin held down the Machine duties, Danny gets busy on the cowbell. “We love bringing big bad bass elements to a minimal beat” they further explained, a statement that’s backed up over and over again by their stellar production. When quizzed on their intentions behind the Mankinde moniker, it was all relatively simple. “We’re working on our live act” they said, grinning “we want to spray hot sticky banana bass all over small underground clubs with low ceilings and minimal lighting”. We couldn’t complain about that, especially not when they also let slip that they would be working on a collaboration with Sydney hotshot duo What So Not. For now though, the two monkey inspired bearded beatsmiths are reclusive in the studio on the doorstep of their Hipster Doofus EP, set for release on August 17th via Bakehaus Records.
