Madeon is a French whizz kid who uses fruity loops studio to produce cool dance remixes. His talk entering the scene (about 14 months ago) was backed up with melodic takes on glitchy electro that made people dance, but further exemplified with his amazing ‘Pop Culture‘ concept when it recently hit Youtube. He’s hung with guys like Skrillex and Zedd, and is a long time friend of Porter Robinson, who in his own words had a big influence over Madeon. He burst onto the scene when he was like 15 (like implying we are not positive) with a remix of the Killers track ‘Smile Like You Mean It’. 115,000 plays and 10,539 downloads later, the Madeon sensation touched down in a visual sense. Keeping in the trend of massive stats, Madeons ‘Pop Culture’ effort has racked up 624,115 views since it’s addition to the walls of YouTube 5 days ago. Quality, authentic following.
The main goal of my style was to implement the detailed glitchy aspect of electro in a more melodic pop context. I like the idea of having a continuous melody that is played subsequently by various, sometimes unrelated, instruments. It adds an element of timbre variation to the composition. For example, there are two layers of composition to a vocal track, it evolves both in pitch and in timbre, with different vowels. It’s the style im exploring right now, but i’m also heavily influenced by straight-up pop producers, the biggest being Stuart Price. I have a heavy fascination for simple, yet striking, pop productions. MADEON via TWG.
‘Pop Culture’ was pretty fascinating. Jamming a tonne of songs into less than 4 minutes and combining it with outstanding use of the Novation Launch Pad was more than enough for most, with a few whiners saying its ‘already been done’ (via Dust Brothers take on Beastie Boys and Beck’s Odelay album).
