Smokin' Joe Mekhael Reveals All!

You know Smokin’ Joe Mekhael right? Of course you do. He’s the insanely positive purveyor of energy. The Captain of cool. The messiah of motivation. The doctor of determination. He’s not only a super inspiring soul, but he’s now a world record holder, sitting atop the crop for ‘longest DJ set in history‘. Yep, that’s right. Since our last chat with him (here), Joe Mekhael took to the decks at Empire in Sydney and flogged it out for over 5 days straight, culminating in the success he was always so positive he’d achieve. It was astounding to see the amount of support that he accumulated over the five day period and it doesn’t take more than a glance at the video above to realise his dreams really did come true. We absolutely had to catch up with him after his amazing effort and see how everything panned out. Turns out he’s still the same super kind guy, solidified by his prompt willingness to lay down an interview. Here’s what went down:

Yo man! First of all congratulations, what an effort! So, last time we talked you were in preparations for your huge feat. Firstly, tell us what it feels like to be the new world record holder for such a cool title?
It feels awesome! I’m telling you man, there is no better feeling than walking down any street in any city and knowing that you’re THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD!

Do you feel like it solidified your state as a DJ, almost as if to prove you really are here to stay and make an impact on the scene?
Yes. It was amazing to see so many DJs from the scene come to Empire and support me, especially people who I have had “beef” with in the past. Over fifty thousand people from more than 120 countries all over the world tuned in and thousands came to Empire over ther five and a half days to witness history. Smokin Joe Mekhael has proven, without a shadow of a doubt that he is THE MOST ELECTRIFYING MAN IN DANCE MUSIC TODAY!

We are eager to learn a bit about the physical effects. What sort of toll was it taking on your body after 5 days? Were there visual disturbances, cramps or any of that stuff?
The most intense time was between 50 and 55 hours into it where I was hallucinating pretty heavily, I got through that but at the end I decided to stop because my ears were ringing a lot and I didn’t want to go deaf after breaking the record.

Have you had any residual effects since you finished?
I saw a doctor after I woke up and he says that I’m perfectly healthy pending a hearing test!

Were you eating properly? Give our readers a little run down on what and how much you ate? Did it increase or diminish?
I lost about 4 KG during the five and a half days. I ate a lot of fruit, nuts and small meals. I was so blessed to have my family, friends and so many well wishers bring me food and encouragement. That’s what really gotme through in the end, people believing in me and telling me that I could do it. Man shall not live on bread alone!

Shit. Either way I don’t think this will make it into any diet strategy books. Is it something you’d be willing to defend if someone were to challenge the title? Could you do it again?
To be honest, I never want to put my body and mind through that again. You don’t understand how much focus it took to mix tunes flawlessly, control the live stream and keep everything together for 132.5 hours. I am THE MARATHON DJ CHAMPION OF THE WORLD and that is never going to change because I am now retired from competitive marathon DJing. Good luck to whoever wants to try to beat my record but I’m the champ and no one is ever going to take this belt from me! With that being said, I am a competitive son of a gun and I won’t rule out making history one more time!

Inspiration is a wonderful thing.
