B-Ju is a German producer who has ingeniously devised a fresh EP called “Prozac People”. The 7- track release promises to please one’s ear by opening their mind to different forms of dance music. In this package we have a mixture of sounds, from hip-hop instrumentals to a pounding footwork influence, which is finally topped off with a spin of prolific 80’s synth pads. The EP features 4 original tracks and 3 rock-steady remixes done by Monolithium, 813 and eLan. My favorite track off the EP is most certainly “Gobble Gobble” because of its heavy ‘footwork’ impact. The forthcoming is out on 12’’ vinyl disc on Error Broadcast Records on the 23rd! Here is a chat I had with him upon the release, enjoy!
What was ‘life’ before turning to music? Tell us about yourself!
I studied German literature and media & film science. Hmm, what else…I was in a chess club at the age of 10.
What do you listen to in your spare time?
Most of the time I listen to Jazz. Mingus, Coltrane, Sanders. Also listening to all kinds of eletronic and house music. Anthing by Swamp81, Planet Mu, Error Broadcast, Lucky Me, Squelch & Clap, Dirtybird, ClekClekBoom, Hessle Audio, 3024, Hotflush, Rush Hour, Ostgut Ton, R&S Records, Sound Pellegrino, just to name a few.
How has your sound changed since your initial efforts?
When I started doing music, I tried really hard to impress people. I think I’m more relaxed now and do whatever I like. No matter what style or tempo.
How often are you in the studio? And on the topic of studios, what are you using?
In the last 3 months I spent like everyday for at least 4 hours in the studio. I just use basic stuff. Korg Synth, MPD Controller, 2 Numark Turntables, 1 Rane Mixer and that’s probably it, No rocket science.
Who would you collaborate with if you could? (top 3)
Pharaoh Sanders, Taprikk Sweezee, Montgomery Clunk.
Talk about your new EP “Prozac People”? What was your influence on this one? What were you trying to achieve?
I tried to bring geeky beat music and club music a little bit closer together. But I think I failed. I remember that I watched like every movie by Tarkowski during the production.. So I think I was influenced by them.

Now let’s roll into some fun.. Are you a good cook?
There are two things I’m really bad at: ironing and cooking.
Favorite Cuisines? drink of choice?
I love everything my mom cooks. Coffee. All day, every day!
Funniest / Weirdest experience since your introduction to the EDM world?
Every time I tell a funny / weird story nobody laughs, so I’ll keep that for myself.
Top 3 tunes as of right now?
1. Emeli Sandé – Daddy (Ifan Dafydd Remix)
2. Machinedrum- DDD
3. Sunclef – Shoebert Feethoven
What do you have in store for your fans and followers in 2012? Gigs? Remixes? Collaborations?
I have some ultra-limited T-Shirts that go along with the “Prozac People” release. Besides that, there is one bass / house ep that is coming on Malente’s No Brainer and my EP on Squelch & Clap. I also did a remix for DJ Wool & Cerebral Vortex that is coming out on Sounds of Sumo. For tour dates check out: https://www.facebook.com/bjubeats
