Mister Tweeks instantly stirred my senses when I had the chance to hear a remix he conjured up for Richelle’s track titled “Mascotte” last year. The Pelican Fly brand and Belgium label mate have grabbed my attention ever since. He recently had the treat of releasing his new EP titled, “Neva Change” via Pelican Fly. The 8- track EP pushes a fresh, new, modern day sound to electronic dance music that fittingly bridges well to audiences abroad. This release is an excellent example of some of the best musical commitment, adding to the efforts of producers of various musical styles. In light of this release, I present you with the chat I had with the man himself. Take a look down below!
Mister Tweeks – Neva Change [FLY006] TEASER by pelicanfly
What was ‘life’ before turning to music? Tell us about yourself!
Before music my life revolved around graffiti; which I’ve been practicing for over 10 years (95crew – IKScrew) and it still excites me today, although I no longer have time for that. I started music being the DJ for friends who started rapping and after a few months we thought it would be better to have our own beats, so a friend of mine invested in a MPC and we already had an old PC that we also used; and that’s where it all started …
You just released your new EP a few days ago, talk about that and about new things (gigs, releases and so on) from Pelican Fly that we can come to expect in the future?
First there’s my next EP “Neva Change” (FLY006) which will be released on the 5th March 2012. The EP consists of four original tracks and four remixes by Sam Tiba, Prince John, Deebs, and Richelle. So it’s really an EP that is 100% pure Pelican Fly family, and I’m really happy about that. These four remixers are people i really appreciate musically and that are also now friends and that was quite important for me.
Then we have some really exciting releases planned for this year : Cosmic Revenge, Sam Tiba, Deebs, Dj Sliink, Prince Jean, Lucid and quite a few more surprises too ! Of course, Richelle and myself are gonna keep releasing material on Pelican Fly 4 life ’til we die 🙂 And we also started a residency at Social Club in Paris in January with guests who are also part of the Pelican Fly family. For the first edition, we had Sinjin Hawke and his girlfriend Miss Zora Jones flown in from Barcelona, and their visit to Paris certainly was a wild ride ! Of course the rest of the fam’ killed it too : Prince Jean, Dj Slow, Berou, Sam Tiba and Canblaster for a surprise set to wrap it up!The first party was totally crazy and definitely in the “spirit” of Pelican Fly! So I have only one thing to say and it’s: See you on March 15th for the second edition, with very special guests all the way from London, Scratcha DVA and Terror Danjah ! And of course the rest of the Pelican Fly family completes the lineup : Berou Music, DJ Slow, Richelle and myself. (Video link: http://vimeo.com/37339616)

What do you listen to in your spare time?
Obviously, a lot of Pelican Fly tracks! But I like a lot of different styles, from quieter stuff like House music to UK-influenced club music, Techno or Grime and even Soul music and RnB. And when I’m not listening to that, then it’s pretty much Rap music all day, everyday. I mainly love mixtapes, for instance I really loved those Lil Twist & Kirko Bangz tapes recently…
Being from Brussels, has the city or country of Belgium helped influence your sound?
When I was younger I used to go out ….. a lot! (drum & bass, techno, rap, raggae) and even today it still influences my musical universe , but I used to mainly produce rappers and singers in the hip hop Brussels scene as a duo of beatmakers called PipOlation (Convok and myself). But honestly it was pretty much us who were influencing the artists with our sound rather than the opposite.
What’s the electronic music scene like in Belgium? What do people have their ear on?
In Brussels there are not many clubs who have of a weekly evening concept except the FUSE, which is techno oriented. Otherwise there are a few events who are a little more ghetto music orientated like the Regulate parties where we are actually playing on the 23 March with Sinjin Hawke… But i have to say i don’t go out that much lately (at least in brussels).

How often are you in the studio? and on the topics of studio, what are you using?
I’m trying to be there as often as possible, otherwise I compose a lot at home and then go to the studio to mix. I work with LOGIC internal synths and an oversized soundbank. I just got a Triton but I would really like to buy me some ol’ good analog synths, this is really what I am missing now…
Top 3 artists at the moment?
Dj Sliink, Salva and Sinjin Hawke.
3 favorite tracks at the moment?
Comsic Revenge – Hallucinations
Kirko Bangz feat Paul Wall – Knowmtalmbout
Mister Tweeks – Ice Cream (Richelle Remix)
Myd – Javier (Mister Tweeks Remix) by MisterTweeks
Favorite cuisines?
I’m a good cook like Action Bronson or Dj Paul ahaha, I used to be a “Pizzaiolo” during 4 years, but my culinary specialty is the chocolate mousse…
What’s your opinion on music blogs?
I’m not someone who spends all his day on internet forums & blogs…I know a few and I totally agree that they’re much needed cause today the info is mainly spread thru them.
Thank you so much for the time, it was certainly a pleasure. Any final words to all the Pelican Fly enthusiasts?
Thanks for your interest & Stay tuned to the fountain of vibes !!! <3<3<3 In addition, check out the new promo mix that Mister Tweeks made for label mates Pelican Fly!
