The world of fashion is scary and confusing. Just when you think you understand the latest trend, the whole world flips upside down and people are rocking something totally different. On top of that, fashion isn’t a cheap game, high-fashion labels can really charge whatever they want and they still know people will queue up for a branded brick.
We now have a now addition to the list of incomprehensible fashion pieces, as American retailer, Nordstrom recently released $595 AUD pre-muddied work jeans that show “you’re not afraid to get down and dirty.” As opposed to, y’know, actually getting down and dirty.
The official description on Nordstrom’s website reckons they’re “Heavily distressed medium-blue denim jeans in a comfortable straight-leg fit embody rugged, Americana workwear that’s seen some hard-working action with a crackled, caked-on muddy coating.”
As expected, the jeans have been brutally mocked on social media, with “DirtyJobs” host Mike Rowe dropping in for an absolute doozie of a roast on Facebook.
“These are perhaps the best jeans I’ve ever owned. Perfectly match my stick on calluses,” one cheeky reviewer left on Nordstrom’s website, along with a fairly generous five-star rating.
Another reviewer failed to see the funny side of buying a pair of jeans that you could literally achieve the same look with by rolling in the garden for 20 minutes. “This is a joke, right? Do you also sell jeans covered in cow manure? Oh, that must be the deluxe model.”
If you’re keen on nabbing a pair, you can grab them from here.
