Now that it’s more common to own a set of decks and a MIDI controller than a printer, it’s only natural there’s some serious competition out there on the burgeoning, young Australian music producer scene. Forever forward beer powerhouse Budweiser have recognised the demand for this talented cohort of slowly-going-deaf-folk, and thanks to the Budweiser People’s Choice 2013 Awards, people who can play keys or warp synths better than the next are being slapped with an outstanding opportunity, usually reserved for the kind of superstars who have ‘riders’ at festivals and groupies in their backstage areas. The competition, which is now in the closing stages (you have until the 28th of October to submit your own unique production) is dishing up a hefty $5000 in cash to spend at DJ Warehouse, plus exclusive studio time that will lead to a limited edition vinyl pressing of the producer’s own record. That’s kind of like sex, right?
An exceptional prize is also up for grabs for voters, giving them a chance to win an ultimate night out with three of their mates, including flights to Sydney, five star accommodation, and VIP attendance to the Australian Independent Music Awards (AIMAs). All that for clicking buttons that are even easier to press than the ones the poor producers have to slog out on until 2am each and every night.
Submissions (enter here) are open right now and close midnight October 27. Voting is open from midday October 28, ending midnight November 2. The four most popular artists as voted by the public will be flown to the AIMAs on November 7, where the Budweiser People’s Choice 2013 will be announced.
Get on that shit, right now.
