When you’re in the midst of a sweaty festival mosh pit, craving a coldie and nearly dying of thirst the last thing you want to be doing is lining up for 30 minutes to buy drink tokens. It adds another obstacle in the quest of getting drunk and the lines are long enough to cause even the most mild-mannered festival goer to sink to their knees in a fit of rage and despair.
Well, rejoice brethren! On top of announcing an absolutely stacked line-up (what up Queens of the Stone Age, The XX, Lil Yachty and an absolute truckload of other artists), the good folks behind Splendour have dropped another cheeky announcement.
Drink tokens are now a thing of the past as the festival will be utilising terminals with pay wave in conjunction with Visa. This is great because now you can keep track of how much money you’re blowing through while still being able to put in the absolute minimum amount of effort in to pay for your drinks!
Festivals have previously operated under the (inefficient) system of having punters queue up for drink tokens and then exchanging said tokens for sweet, sweet alcohol. The problem with this is that you spend twice as long lining up and when you leave the festival you’re stuck with a pocketful of tokens that are worth sweet fuck all.
Splendour’s official press release said “This year we’ve scrapped the token system and have joined forces with Visa to bring you Visa payWave at all bars! That means less time waiting in lines. Yay for that!”
The tap and go facilities will be available at bars across the festival, as long as you aren’t so cooked that you lose your card you should be all good.
