McDonald’s gives an overlooked but needed service in society. Where else can you grab a consistently satisfying lunch and still rock up at 3am cooked as fuck demanding why the soft serve machine is broken?
Anyone who’s ever had the pleasure of working at one of the many temples of obesity scattered around the country will probably tell you that the recruitment process wasn’t as vigorous and intense as the post-feed workout. When I had my interview, I rocked up wearing long pants and the interviewer deemed that enough to give me the job.
Well, McDonald’s are looking to streamline their already relaxed job process by introducing the most humiliating form of job hunting: sending in a 10-second Snapchat video saying why you deserve to be blessed with an opportunity to work at Maccas.
That’s right, McDonald’s have teamed up with Snapchat to launch the “Snaplications” campaign. Basically, users will have a filter where they can send 10-second Snapchats showcasing their “bubbly personality” and “positivity”. Once the application is reviewed, Maccas will send users back to the digital careers hub where they can download an application form.
Shaun Ruming, chief operating officer of McDonald’s Australia said: “We’re the largest employer of youth in the country, so we’re trying to look for new and innovative ways to recruit crew people.”
Ruming reckons that while the 10-second video wouldn’t replace the traditional hiring process, it would form part of the application. “It certainly won’t replace a thorough face-to-face interview, but we’ll obviously take it into account.”
It’s a pretty nifty idea, and McDonald’s sounds like they’re keen to just see how a Snapchattable job application might work out. The campaign rolls out soon, so if you want a job and haven’t quite mastered handing in a piece of paper in person, give this a go.
